2012 AP INFORMATION BULLETIN
We will be registering for AP Exams in March. Information will be going out to our students through the AP classes early February. The anticipated exam cost is $87 each. If your family qualifies for Free/Reduced Lunch, there is a considerable discount for AP Exams and SAT/ACT Exams. Please contact Julie Scoggin at 414-3827 for more info about Free/Reduced Lunch qualifications.
8TH GRADE PARENTS AND STUDENTS
You may be surprised to know that at spring semester each year, the student/counselor ratio jumps from approx. 500/1 to about 625/1.
Many parents desire a private appointment with their child's counselor at course selection time. For this reason, it is very important that families take advantage of our various presentations. Please know that you and your student are important to us and while we will be available at the times listed below (Middle School dates TBD) to address any questions or concerns, we will make every effort to answer calls and emails as soon as possible. We look forward to meeting our incoming Class of 2016 in August 2012!
8th Grade Orientation and Course Fair - February 6, 2012 @ 6:00 in the Fine Arts Building. This is a MUST attend event for anyone considering coming to Bowie!
COURSE ADVISING FOR PARENTS OF 8TH GRADERS:
If you have any remaining questions after attending the Orientation, please make sure to attend one of the parent advising sessions below. Parents, you need not have a student at that particular middle school to attend that middle school session.
- Gorzycki MS Course Contract Advising for Parents - February 14, 2012 from 3:30 - 5:00.
- Bailey MS Course Contract Advising for Parents - February 15, 2012 from 3:30 - 5:00.
- Covington MS Course Contract Advising for Parents- February 21, 2012 from 3:30 - 5:00.
- Small MS Course Contract Advising for Parents - February 28, 2012 from 3:30 - 5:00.
The Counseling Office is located in the southeast corner of the main administration building. Visitors to the campus must check in with identification at the main office. It is advisable to make an appointment with the counselor, or anyone you wish to see for that matter, to avoid having to wait or come back at a scheduled time. Should you have an emergency, please contact Kathy Ashburn at 414-7318 or the front office at 414-5247.
Bowie students may meet with their counselor before school, during both lunches, or after school. Ms. Ashburn will schedule a time for their visit and give them the necessary call slip if the student has been unable to meet with the counselor at the above times. If at all possible, students should not miss class time to visit with the counselor.
The Bowie Counseling Staff would love to hear from you if you have any questions or concerns. Parents, please call or e-mail your child’s counselor directly if you have a need for a parent conference. It is important to schedule an appointment as your child's counselor will want to reserve ample time to address your concerns. Please plan to attend our evening parent meetings (at least seven this year!) and study the information posted on Counselor's Corner. We think you will be glad you did :)
