Essays, College Applications, and Scholarships

  • Speak with your teachers and counselors about writing you a letter of recommendation (LOR). Be sure to give them your brag sheets, stamped and addressed envelopes with 2 stamps each just to be safe, and at least 10 business days before you need your LOR to be mailed. Don't forget to thank your teachers and counselor for his/her help!
  • Have your essays proofread by as many people as possible and prepare a final draft for submission
  • Continue to attend college recruiting visits and consider attending the Centex College Fair (Oct), Delco Fair (Oct), and NACAC Fair (April)
  • Complete Apply Texas for Texas public schools and/or the Common Application if applying to private or out-of-state schools, or the school specific application
  • Request that transcripts be sent to your colleges by going to Naviance/Family Connection - click here for detailed instructions on ordering transcripts through Naviance
  • Submit finalized applications and essays by Halloween!
  • Don't forget that if you're on Free/Reduced Lunch, your SAT/ACT test and four college applications are free
  • Check with your colleges to find out about housing. (UT applicants should apply for housing early
