James Bowie High School Outdoor Performing Ensemble

The James Bowie High School Outdoor Performing Ensemble is preparing for another award-winning season and is honored to have been invited to the 27th Annual Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona Fiesta Bowl National Band Championship in December. The event, one of the Fiesta Bowl's longest running events, has distinguished itself in earning a reputation as one of the most prestigious high school marching band competitions in the nation. Bowie will be one of 18 bands from across the nation, and the only one from Texas, to perform in competition during a week-long trip to Arizona during the Winter Break.

The Ensemble will also perform in the Fort McDowell Fiesta Bowl Parade – which is one of just a few major parades in the nation in which marching bands are judged for their performance – and has been selected to perform for the opening flag ceremonies for the 15th Annual Insight Bowl, played at the Bank One Ballpark, a retractable roof sports stadium with a seating capacity of 42,915. The Band, Color Guard, Silver Stars, and Directors are hard at work putting together what we are sure will be an award-winning show for a full fall schedule that includes not only performances at all Bowie Varsity football games, but Bands of America competitions in Houston on October 2nd and San Antonio on October 30th.

Additionally, the Ensemble is scheduled to perform at the Westlake Marching Festival on October 9th and will participate in UIL Marching Band competitions for Region tentatively scheduled for October 12th and hope to move on to Area and State competitions, tentatively set for October 23rd and November 2nd respectively. Bowie placed 11th at the state UIL competition two years ago, and is looking to improve on that performance!

The Boosters are gearing up for the season as well, and have kicked off a fundraising campaign to raise in excess of $50,000 to help transport the Ensemble to Arizona. So be sure to stop by the Band Booth for Bulldogs and Hotdogs and get the best sausage wrap on campus! Also, sponsorships to defray trip costs are being sought from the Bowie Community and local area businesses. If you would like to donate or suggest a possible corporate sponsor, please contact Michael Glenn at 280-6625 or by email at mglenn5@texas.net.
